When I got the phone call from Jonah he laughed a little and asked if we could plan a wedding in 4 days.  He explained that it was last minute but  all they wanted to do was get married! The next day, as I spoke to Veronica the bride, I told her yes, this was something we could do! But, the most important thing was that they get their wedding license the next day. She told me…”well that isn’t a problem. We’ve had the license for about a month now and it’s been traveling around with us in the car!”  They were ready to have a Pismo Beach elopement.

This couple, who exchanged their vows and celebrated their love for one another, actually went on their first date seven years ago from the date they were married.   So, this day had special meaning to them – the beginning of the love that has brought the two of them together and which has already given them much joy and meaning.   The two of them met back in high school.  Jonah was the one that first noticed Veronica, but it took him some time to get the courage to ask her out.  Their love   has grown into the commitment to one another expressed in their marriage vows they wrote to each other.   They chose a perfect spot on a grassy area in Pismo Beach for their elopement.   We had just begun the ceremony, when I stopped to let them know that a ladybug had just flown onto the groom’s left shoulder.   At the end of the ceremony, that same ladybug was still on his shoulder!

A little history about ladybugs – During the Middle Ages, the story is told about farmers whose crops were being destroyed by aphids.   But, the farmers’ prayers were answered when swarms of ladybugs appeared, destroyed the aphids, and saved the crops.   Since then, ladybugs have symbolized safety, love, joy, and good fortune, as well as abundant blessings   – fitting wished for this sweet, newly-married couple.

May God continue to bless them as they enter their new life together as husband and wife and from this day forth, may their worries be few, may their joys be many, and may their love grow more abundantly with each passing day.  And most of all, may Jonah get his wish of the two of them to grow their family and have 10 kids!!
