Today I am reminded about my wedding day.  Tomorrow will be my anniversary. I remember the day before wedding jitters, excitement, and nervousness.  But most of all, I remember the commitment my husband and I made between to each other.  As I wrote in a past post, the vows we made to each other were and are our foundation for our life together. Each day our love continues to grow.  But each day also brings new challenges, new memories, new smiles, and new adventures.  We were so lucky to welcome our little girl into the world this year and to grow our family.

I wish I could have stopped time for a few minutes because the wedding day will go by very fast! I remember sitting on the stairs with my husband during the reception and reflecting on what we had accomplished that day and letting him know how much I loved him.

A few months later, a friend of mine was getting married. I gave her this piece of advice: “Take a few minutes before the wedding ceremony to take it all in and remember that this is  ONE day, in the many days to come, you will share with your husband. Then at the wedding reception…sneak off with your husband and take a few minutes to sit back and take it all in. Also, on that day, don’t worry about what everyone else is doing or thinking or not having fun or having fun – JUST WORRY ABOUT YOU AND YOUR SPECIAL DAY!”

So really, your wedding day is about the two of you – the love you share, the start of a new foundation, and the vows you make. I’ve seen many brides get wrapped up in the details of the wedding, expectations of others, and hurt feelings.  I encourage brides who may be feeling like the wedding isn’t about them to consider having a small wedding or eloping.  YES, someone will get their feelings hurt, but come on….the DAY IS ABOUT YOU!!
