We just got our Christmas tree today so I am in the holiday spirit! I have Pandora playing holiday tunes and I am singing songs to my little one. Tonight Rudolph is on TV and I am planning to watch Christmas Vacation this weekend. For our couples who were married this year, this holiday is your first as a married couple. Many times the holidays can bring on stress – blending of two families. But, take some time to come up with traditions for your new family – the family as husband and wife.
Maybe start a tradition of going shopping for a tree on a certain date with hot cocoa in your hands. I LOVED Christmas Tree Lane in Fresno!! This may be a fun thing to do with family and walk the lane on the nights it is closed to cars. Or in Bakersfield, take a drive around all the houses that are decorated. I remember driving around West Chester when I was a child. Other traditions could be about cooking a certain meal. My husband and I took my tradition of a chile egg cheese puff and his breakfast tradition of tamales and blended the two together to get a chile egg tamale puff!
Another great idea is to pick up holiday ornaments for your tree. When decorating the tree tonight I remembered each ornament and the meaning it had. We had one from Colorado from our honeymoon, one with the Chipmucks on it from a trip we took to Disneyland, and my most favorite was our ornaments we got the year we started dating from Olivera Street in LA.
Wishing all of you a happy holiday season!!
